Here are some basic instructions for downloading an ebook to a Kindle device or app.
- Set up an account with Amazon. You may need to enter a credit card, but I assure you that checking out ebooks from the library is still free!
- Go to the NH Downloadables website: http://nh.lib.overdrive.com/
- Find a book you want to download. Note: not all ebook titles are available for Kindle.
- Tip: If you are having trouble finding available titles, go to the advanced search and select "Kindle Book" under format and check the box for "Only show titles with copies available." You do not need to enter a search term before clicking search. This will bring up a list of all available Kindle titles. You can also put titles you want to read on hold or on a wish list.
- Click the "Available - Add to Cart" button for the "Kindle Book" format
- Click "Proceed to Checkout"
- Select your town/library and sign in with your 14-digit library card number
- Click "Confirm Checkout"
- Click the "Get for Kindle" button. You will be taken to Amazon.com
- Use the dropdown menu in the green box to select the Kindle device/app you want to use for reading
- Click the yellow "Get Library Book" button in the green box. The book will be sent to your Kindle device the next time it is connected to the internet. Note: If your Kindle device does not have wifi, use Amazon's tutorial on using a USB to transfer ebooks to your Kindle
